Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
ABOUT Craniosacral-East and JOSHUA HORWITZ, MA, BCSP
Craniosacral-East has been in the Saint Denis Building, providing the highest quality craniosacral sessions since 2002
Craniosacral Process integrates two forms of Craniosacral Therapy and a subtle form of meditation, Realization Process. Joshua Horwitz first discovered Craniosacral Therapy as a client while in his early twenties, while experiencing debilitating back spasms. The gentle approach helped change his stress patterns more than any other modality he'd experienced. He has since pursued advanced certification and study in Craniosacral Therapy and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy at the Michael Shea Teaching Institute and at the Upledger Institute. His lineage of Craniosacral teachers goes through Michael Shea, Phd and his teacher Jim Jealous, DO directly back to the original Cranial Osteopath, William Garner Sutherland, DO who first developed this work.
The particular Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy certification program Joshua Horwitz completed with the Michael Shea Teaching Institute focuses on thoroughly understanding the human craniosacral system as well as our infant and embryological development.
This awareness of our developmental process allows a Craniosacral practitioner to have the sensitivity to help infants with difficult birth issues as well as adults with chronic symptoms such as migraines and teeth grinding. Many of our deepest tension and trauma patterns refer back to our earliest experiences and challenges as infants and in eutero. Joshua has also done shorter training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy with Roger Gilchrist, MA RPP, RCST and Franklin Sills. MA, RPT, RCST.
Joshua Horwitz has taken Upledger Institute Classes in pediatrics, Craniosacral Therapy levels I-V, their advanced Craniosacral Therapy program, Visceral Manipulation and Peripheral Nerve classes by Jeane Pierre Barral, DO. He has also been part of their Craniosacral Therapy teaching assistant team.
Since 2012 when he became certified to teach Judith Blackstone's Realization Process, he has been introduces these meditations at the beginning and end of sessions, giving clients tools they can use on their own, to become aware of and let go of tensions patterns within their body. What he's seen is that clients hold onto the benefits of this work much longer once they learn to stay in a more balanced place on their own. In an attempt to offer this work he's learned to energy workers, Reiki practitioners, ministers, parents, massage therapist, Duolas and other non-therapists in the healing arts like himself, he's created Craniosacral Process which is a non-medical approach. It offers the insights of this gentle, energetic and deeply spiritual work to thousands of healers who otherwise wouldn't have access.
As a supplement to his craniosacral training, he has received post-graduate training in Gestalt Therapy at the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy and has completed a 4 year advanced seminar at the center for Somatic Studies. Lastly, he is a certified Reiki Master.
Before doing bodywork, he was a leadership and violence prevention teacher in the NYC public schools and prior to that he spent seven years teaching Pre-kindergarten in NYC where he specialized in music and puppetry. Prior that he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in the College of Social Studies at Wesleyan University.
