About Joshua Horwitz, BCST

Joshua Horwitz began his work as a Craniosacral Therapist first as a client, learning how this gentle work could heal his debilitating back spasms. He has since pursued advanced certification and study in Craniosacral Therapy and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy at the Michael Shea Teaching Institute and at the Upledger Institute. His lineage of Craniosacral teachers goes through Michael Shea, Phd and his teacher Jim Jealous, DO directly back to the original Cranial Osteopath, William Garner Sutherland, DO who first developed this work. Joshua has been in private practice, at Craniosacral-East, since 2001.

Joshua Horwitz is certified in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist by the Michael Shea Teaching Institute which is a member school of the International Affiliation of Biodynamic Trainings. This intensive 2.5 year program focuses on thoroughly understanding the human craniosacral system as well as our infant and embryological development. The subtle awareness this developmental training fosters helps the Craniosacral practitioner have the sensitivity to help infants with difficult birth issues as well as adults with chronic symptoms such as migraines and teeth grinding. Joshua has also trained in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy with Roger Gilchrist, MA RPP, RCST and Franklin Sills. MA, RPT, RCST.

Joshua Horwitz has taken Upledger Institute Classes in pediatrics, Craniosacral Therapy levels I-V, their advanced Craniosacral Therapy program, Visceral Manipulation and Peripheral Nerve classes by Jeane Pierre Barral, DO. He has also been part of their Craniosacral Therapy teaching assistant team.

As a supplement to his craniosacral training, he has received post-graduate training in Gestalt Therapy at the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy and has completed a 4 year advanced seminar at the center for Somatic Studies. Currently he is in a certification therapeutic program with Judith Blackstone, Phd, for Realization Process.  Lastly, he is a certified Reiki Master.

Before doing bodywork, he was a leadership and violence prevention teacher in the NYC public schools and prior to that he spent seven years teaching Pre-kindergarten in NYC where he specialized in music and puppetry. Prior that he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in the College of Social Studies at Wesleyan University.
